Chief Kenny Blacksmith

Cree Nation of Mistissini

Kenny was born to parents Charlie Blacksmith and Margaret Etapp in March 11th, 1956 in the bush in Mistissini Quebec, Canada and still resides there. He married Louise in 1975 and they were born again in 1977. They have 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Kenny and Louise helped translate the New Testament into their Cree language which took 23 years to complete. They founded a charitable organization to gather nations to pray and worship, conduct world humanitarian aid, to unite, train and equip and establish “houses of prayer”. Kenny served as an elected Councilor on the Chief of Council of Mistissini, Commissioner and Chairman of the Cree School Board and also Deputy Grand Chief of the Cree Nation Government.

As Cree First Nation missionaries to Ottawa, Canada, they initiated parliamentary receptions, national aboriginal parliamentary prayer breakfast, reconciliation, healing, freedom and unity initiatives. He also initiated a Journey of Freedom in Canada to arouse the power of healing and freedom through forgiveness.

Kenny hosted a National Forgiven Summit where over 7000 coalition of individuals came together to release forgiveness with an additional 7000 people from over 24 countries worldwide streaming live to the gathering. He authored the Covenant of First Peoples of Canada, uniting First Nations, Inuit, Metis pastors and community leaders, Chiefs, and members of Parliament, both young and old to pray and unite for a common heart and vision for Canada: and the Charter of Forgiveness and Freedom as a response to the historic apology of Prime Minister Stephen Harper for Canada’s historic wrongs on the implementation of a First Nation policy on assimilation through Indian Resident Schools.

Chief Kenny was recognized as an Honorary Chief and given the name, “Battle Chief” in Canada. He is a social worker, an alcohol and drug abuse counselor, teacher, traditional hunter, trapper and fisherman in keeping with the Cree way of life on the land. Kenny and Louise started a general contracting company with an emphasis on preserving, promoting and enhancing the essence of nature’s care and sacred gifts of the land, for the healing of people and nations. Both continue to minister and serve as the Lord leads, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Both Chief Kenny and Louise continue to serve as ‘Elders” on numerous programs and community services.
